
Some say he saw the vision of his 'Ideal Castle' in a dream. Other authorities state that the idea came to him when he tripped over a rock. During his life he was regarded by the locals as little more than the village idiot and by the time of his death his work would be hailed by the likes of André Breton and Pablo Picasso. His name was Ferdinand Cheval (1836 - 1924), a simple country postman in Hauterives, south of Lyon, France and ever since I was a kid he has remained one of my biggest influences in both art and attitude.
