Thee Guild ov Secret Societies Set List
Jan. 19th, 2010 05:51 pm( Thee Guild ov Secret Societies Set List from 10-12:45 )
A few notes: Some tracks in the beginning there I played simultaneously (or as close to) - these mash-ups would be - Burroughs/Porno Sect, Crowley/Dead Can Dance (mixing it so when Frater Perdurabo vibrated his last angel name into a hum it melded into the opening call of the 'Seraphim'). Most of these were to set up a mood fitting a 'secret society party'. In fact at three different points in the evening I seem to have had Crowley chanting away. Weird energy was summoned as I tried my best to play 'phonomancer'.
The gothabilly portion had a so-so reaction but it's always fun watching angry young men in big boots and big goggles stomp around to Johnny Cash.
The biggy seems to have been the Bauhaus/She Wants Revenge combo - this one was as easy as the Closer/#1 Crush with there being an almost perfect rythm mirror from one songs beginning to the other's end.
Thank the Goddess that I was able to practice on the club decks before going live. I kept finding all sorts of CDs that played fine on the PC but skipped once dropped into the CDJs. This gave me enough time to make back-up copies and such. As Bruce Wayne would say - "Victory is in the preparation".
Sadly there are no photos of me spinning that night - which is a shame because I looked positively charming in a suit and Shriner's Fez. Still it's hard to compete with Goth Go-Go Girls for camera time.
Anyway, now I can slip comfortably back into retirement. DJ Jack Babalon can go back to being 'Rob the Door Guy'. The previous stage fright was almost unbarable and getting back into spinning ate up a lot of the creative energy I usually spend on writing. When the book comes out (soon I promise!) I might be able to focus back on spinning but for now, I have to channel my imagination with getting (self) published.
Alright, that's the last I'll talk about the Guild ov Secret Societies... except big thanks to Elvis for giving me the chance to spin and the confidence in me that I wouldn't fuck it up. Love once again to my friends for showing up and dancing to some of the crazy shit I was playing and for their words of encouragement.
Now back to your regularly scheduled blog...
