The rains last night flooded the basement here at the house. Since losing my apartment last year it was where I had the bulk of my property, my life actually, stored. It looks like a lot of my book collection got destroyed in the process - books I've been collecting since I was a teenager and some of them are irreplaceable. My old leather jacket, my last memento from my punk years got wiped out along with all my linens, my futon matress, my persian rug and that's just the first few boxes so far. My two CDJ decks and mixer also seem to have gotten damaged but right now I'm not sure if it's just the boxes they were stored in or the equipment itself. Right now I just need to step away from it all for a few minutes. Try to get some perspective. I doubt I'll be able to, but I'm hoping I can reach a friend or two to help me drag some of my shit to the curb and to help me sift through it all to see if there's anything left to salvage.
Yesterday I was riding high still on the buzz of getting my first royalty check. I was on top of the world and now, not even a day later, I find myself having to trash the majority of my life away.
Just goes to show.
