Thanks to Inverness, Scotland's own Macgyver for hipping me to this story.

It's hard to imagine what news could be better to an irony loving, kitsch collecting, 80's pre-teenager turned post Gen-X jaded pseudo-hipster-geek than finding out that the Lt.Templeton Peck aka 'The Faceman' aka 'Oldschool Starbuck' aka Dirk 'Sexy Beast' Benedict was your Baby Daddy!.

A shame he found out at the age of 29 instead of 9! Can you imagine the grade school smack talking bragging rights this kid could've had?
"My daddy's a lawyer..."

"Oh yeah... my daddy's on the mother-loving A-Team*** and is on a first name basis with Mr.T!"

or

"Oh yeah... my daddy's on the mother-loving Galactica and gets to wear a cape while he shoots Cyclons!"

There is only possible candidate that could be better. Finding out that your Old Man is none other than Gil 'Buck Rogers' Gerard. Both Gerard and Benedict symbolize the machismo sexiness of the late 70's/early 80's science fiction hero. Both had a bad boy 'devil-may-care' attitude, a pendacity for witty one liners, chests so hairy they had to be vacuumed regularly, a slight womanizing streak that was considered 'manly' back then and both had to deal with really annoying robots (while I don't envy anyone who has to get into a dogfight with a Cylon Raider... it's still infinetly better than having to spend time with 'Twiggie' and his nerve grating speech impediment. Though the original Galactica did have a furry robot dog if I recall that should've been killed off in an amazingly horrific way.)

Which brings me to our next 'Versus' poll:
[Poll #978110]

There can only be one...

I remember whenever I watched the A-Team with my Dad as a wee little Jack Babalon, there would be this part in the introduction where we'd hear about how they were on the run from the military for an unspecified crime in Vietnam 'they didn't commit'. My Dad would snort out a 'bullshit' and proceeded to explain to me that the 'A-Team' were most likely involved in the 'My Lai Massacre' or working Black Ops illegally in Cambodia. This didn't faze me in the least back then but now that I look back on the Reagan era it occurs to me that Oliver North probably got off easy in the court of public opinion because we assumed that Col.North was just a modern version of Colonel 'Hannibal' Smith.

"I love it when a plan comes together"
Col. John "Hannibal" Smith circa 1968
