jack_babalonIt's Friday down here at the Cube Farm and one my coworkers behind me is singing along to NWA on her headphones. What I love is that she has this kinda Betty Rubble voice. Hearing her mutter/whisper the lyrics "fuckin' with me because i'm a teenager/ with a little bit of gold and a pager'" makes me wish I had bought a tape recorder in today!
Still hearing it made me scratch wax nostalgic. I remember skipping school in Lauderdale, riding around with some of my buddies up and and down the strip. Goofing off, killing time, looking for petulant punk rock girls and blasting Bad Religions 'Suffer', Ministry's Twitch and N.W.A.'s Straight outta Compton.
This is one of my favorite videos of all time. It's like a five minute mini-action movie. It has: Running on foot from police cars (and outracing them), dogs chasing the protagonists as they hop up a chain link fence, explosions, acrobatics, a sub-plot involving corrupt detectives(?), kissing a trannie, using the blind to aid your escape and this wonderful 70's Shaft brass section underscoring the beat. In fact the only thing missing is a scene where E-Z E is running while a police helicopter pursues him, firing a barrage of rockets that just miss by inches as swarms of ninjas pop out at our 'hero' from the shadows.
