"Just like a Nazi... brings a whip to a gun fight!"

There's a lot of things I love about these old Men's Adventure Magazine Covers: The S&M Burlesque, revealing (through a sordid strip-tease of gunfire, explosions and torture), the lone Nietzschean Cowboy coming to the rescue in a hail of bullets and pulp stoicism. Whether they're battling the immaculately well groomed savages of the Third Reich, the 'hurt-me-please' Amazon Slave Traders straight from the Jungles of You-Wish or even the occasional royally pissed off local wildlife whose rage has been stoked to homocidal levels... each one of these Illustrations offers the thanoerotic dance of the Last Stand, the testosterone romance of the fist-fight gang bang and most of all the much suspected truth that in the end, despite all the religions and philosophies we've been spoon fed, what counts is whether or not you go out swinging!

Some folks strictly dig the Victim Brothels, where half naked women are forced to submit to the Atrocity Tantra of palm rubbing mad scientists and SSex SStarved SS Officers. Not me though. I dig the Valkyries - women as dangerous as they are beautiful - sometimes breaking in some hapless G.I. into their Stud Harem or heroic but scantily clad Hellcats kniving Johann Kraut in the back ninja style!

"And step and kick and step and drive that knee in... there you go... now slice the guards throat..."

Another thing I dig is the juxtaposition of headline to image. Dig this image real quick...

"Seriously... this is one fucked up first date, y'know that right?"

... now obviously the byline "My wild escape from the..." is the one that matches the story. But in my Derrida-daistic imagination the accompanying blurbs of "Screaming Maidens for the Monster Rites of Agony" or "Your Sex Hangups are killing you" seem to equally serve the story. (In my post before this there is a man getting whipped by some blond bruhilda type and a caption in the corner of the image reads: "The Sub that sank itself". For a moment I thought Sargeant Safety Word there was the 'Sub' in question!

There's an almost Burroughsesque Cut-Up quality to these accidents of word and visual that delights me to no end.

So bascially it boils down to Sex, Violence and the often accidental verbal Slapstick of the magazines that continues to maintain a strangle hold over my Pop culture infested imagination.

Ah, the Wild Raid of Gibbons' Lace Panties Commandos. Another moment in history the nuns only skimmed over ...
