I wonder whatever happened to the Skatenigs. They had this uniquely 90's vibe that hit somewhere between Chili Peppers Jock Punk and Revolting Cocks industrial grime-grind. One of my favorite shows of all time was driving down from Jacksonville to Orlando to catch them opening for Fear (which reminds me of a certain good friend of mine who always confuses the lead singer Lee Ving with the actor Ving Rhames... though Ving Rhames singing Let's have a war does hold a certain appeal to me). Recollect how I almost got my ass handed to me in the pit that night, by a hate squad of local nazi skins, if not for a timely rescue from my best friend Bill Crime who pummeled and peeled a seig heiling mob of neanderthals off me.

Good times.

Chemical Imbalance remains on the soundtrack to my wasted youth, remembering fondly how it looped perpetually through my head while embarking on all sorts of acts of petty vandalism and boredom induced violence. Those glorious years where I had nothing else to do but pump iron, write bad poetry, get stoned and desperately try to sneak into strange panties and night clubs alike. Searching recklessly for those fleeting golden moments of sheer abandon that would redeem the mundane anxities of my twenties.

Fifteen years and forty pounds later I still occasionally find myself humming along to the 'nigs whenever I think my past ain't looking.

I've been meaning to check out Club Fetish here of late, but haven't had the time off to do so lately. I'll have to check it out.

Yeah, ol'Skatenigs, with the intro by Lydia Lunch...shucks.
Imagine my amusement, when a few years back a new band hit it big on the EBM/goth music scene. Sovme Norwegians called Combichrist, that all the kiddies just loved. I put on their album and discoved this song-

And when I say it's a rip-off...nobody knows what i'm talking about. oh, well.

I actually DJed with the lead singer at the Secret Room ages ago. I was told by the promoter before hand that he was in 'Coil'. What the promoter forgot to tell me was that he meant 'Icon of Coil'. So imagine my surprise when I have some Norwegian kid waiting for me in the booth telling me to make my set 'harder'... I do recall that he enjoyed when I slipped some Johnny Cash in my set, though.

It's funny I've heard this a few times in the clubs and always assumed that it was their remix of the old Skatenigs song or failing that a cover.

I guess I'm just getting old.
