Atlanta Lawmakers Approve Panhandling Ban

ATLANTA - Protesters yelled "Shame!" and "Crybaby!" as city council members approved a ban on panhandling near tourist attractions, but the mayor is expected to sign the legislation. The ordinance, approved 12-3 Monday, makes it illegal to ask strangers for food or money near downtown museums and the Martin Luther King Jr. National Historic Site. The measure was pushed by business owners who say the area is awash in aggressive beggars, but it got spirited opposition from civil rights groups and advocates for the poor.

I just have to love a city that immediately after hosting Jesuspalooza,er I mean, MEGA-FEST, decides to pass an ordiance outlawing begging. Is this really what Jesus would do? Come on Christian America, surely the King of Kings had something else on his agenda besides homosexuality & the sanctity of the fetus! And Atlanta, please, I implore you, do not tell me that we have been reduced to a collection of hyterical pussies, pissing in our pants scared at the thought of some homeless person asking us for spare change! I'm sorry but I gotta call Bullshit on that one Mr."City-too-busy-to-hate", time to grow a pair or have your big city status 'revoked'. If you don't give a shit about those less fortunate than you, have the resolve to say so or ignore them. And while i'm on the subject, to outlaw begging by the MLK historical center is a slap in the face of Dr.King. Yeah "I have a dream" as long as you have the money to pay for it!
