Buddha, donuts & do not's
Aug. 13th, 2004 10:38 amSlow morning
Strong coffee
Free donuts
Caffine hard-on and
half a pack of cigarettes
to last me the rest of the day.
Some quotes circling in a holding pattern around my thoughts:
"Do not believe in anything simply because you have heard it. Do not believe in anything simply because it is spoken and rumored by many. Do not believe in anything simply because it is found written in your religious books. Do not believe in anything merely on the authority of your teachers and elders. Do not believe in traditions because they have been handed down for many generations. But after observation and analysis, when you find that anything agrees with reason and is conducive to the good and benefit of one and all, then accept it and live up to it."
The Buddha
"If there is any religion that could cope with modern scientific needs, it would be Buddhism."
Albert Einstein
And finally...
"Cogito cogito ergo cogito sum -- I think I think, therefore, I think I am."
Ambrose Bierce, the devils dictionary
(incidentaly this is the book that got me into trouble with the locals when I first started working here. Just seeing the title alone my coworkers quickly assumed that I had to be a satanist- for the uninformed it's political and social satire. One more time for the normies- you don't do what by the cover of a book?)
