The ICON 8 vs The Patriot Pets

A cold war era team of soviet surrealist super heroes/villains (depending on what side of the Iron Curtain you sip your vodka on). A long time ago, back in the days of the COLD WAR, Eight random students were exposed to Grammatological Radiation over at the Warsaw Philosophy Lab. Bombarded with ICON ENERGY X these students were transformed into the Soviet Structalists of Justice: THE ICON 8!


America was losing the STRANGE HEAD race to the Reds and were forced to do what American Military scientists do best. Blow ungodly amounts of tax payer money on useless experiments on animals. One day, for reasons best left unexplained (hint it involves radiation, gamma rays, super solider serums and other things that could get me sued by Marvel comics)... THE PATRIOT PETS were born. Battlin' Man-imals of The American Way!!!!

The Icon 8 & the Patriot pets engaged in a deadly clandenstine battle of cat & mouse (or in some cases Cat & Yin-Yang sign) over the course of the early 80s. Both sides were to well matched, the Apollonian intellect of the ICON 8 balanced by the animal ferocity of the Patriot Pets. The world inched towards nuclear disaster as these idelogical super powers duked it out across the globe. The Patriot Pets went on to appear in their own comic book series, had an action figure line as well as a Saturday morning cartoon. Meanwhile he ICON 8 were discussed vociferiously by Marxist wannabe French Lit students in darkened cafes all over Europe. Now both teams find themselves forgotten relics in the post cold war age. The ICON 8 were destroyed by the deadly Dr.DerriDa-Da and his SOUS RATURE Ray in a battle on the rooftops of Moscow. Only Comrade Anarchy had escaped. His/her current whereabouts are unknown. Meanwhile the Patriot Pets hit hard times in the post Reagan years. General Whiskers killed himself after a failed marriage with "Joanie Loves Chachi" actress Erin Moran & a losing battle to the bottle. Admiral Paws was indicted in the Tailhook scandal, and subsequently neutered, Collie Commando can be seen on the tour circuit and recently appeared alongside Kenny Baker at this years Dragon*Con. Only Warrant Officer Winky is rumored to be alive and fighting the good fight in Iraq & Afghanistan. The ICON 8 were recently revamped by Grant Morrison in a 12 issue mini series. While the Patriot Pets were last seen in a cameo in Marvel's HOUSE OF M.
