"I saw the moon become a fang"

jack_babalonI'm standing at the bottom of the driveway looking up at the night sky. Watching a bone colored moon watch back down on me from way up high in the sea of starless evening. Sighing to the wind or taking long drags off my Camel, I'm crossing up the depths of clouds by flight of eye. I'm waiting for the Moon to disappear, to be shut off like a light before bed.
Down the street behind me the crowd is cheering over at Pleasantdale park ; little league Baseball play offs, Soccer moms & Nascar dads huddled in the stands watching their pride & joys hit, slide, steal, catch and grand slam their ways to a bright & distant American dream.
Will they bother to look up? Will they let their sons lay down their bats and catcers mitts, and rise in the stands to catch a celestial vanishing act? More importantly why do I care? To answer the last question-because since the dawn of man we've looked into the heavens with wonder, we saw gods and angels descend down to whisper devine landscapes just out of the reach of our grasping monkey hands. Then one day we just stopped looking, sometime after my folks watched as "the eagle has landed" on a black & white tv with bad reception, no moon monsters or ET's greeted us--nothing but the first baby step in the dust of the infinite. We came, we saw and we went back home with a shrug. It was like mankind dipped its little toe into the vast ocean of the universe-shivered and decided the waters were too cold for an evolutionary swim across the stars.
It's beginning above me now. A slow wave of darkness spreading across the lunar surface, the shadow of Malkuth crosses the silver disk of Yesod- the Earth and her little sister cross each other in a slow orbital dance- The black crescent spreads like a Chesire Cat smile and I return it right back at her- behind me in the park the crowd goes wild.
