In search of...

This is the opening and closing credits to the old 70s TV show hosted by Leonard Nimoy. I remember when I was just a kid on East 4th Street in Brooklyn, how my Dad would go through this ritual where we'd walk up to the store to buy a six pack of lemon Italian ices, pick up some comic books and rush home before the ices melted and to catch "In Search Of... with Leonard Nimoy".
I'd sit on the couch, while my Dad pounded on our old shitty tv set to get reception, his muttered cursing seguing up with the opening theme. Finally once the antenna was positioned just right to appease the mighty god of the airways he'd sit down and we'd proceed to our 30 minute adventure into Fortean Weirdness. I especially remember how I would flip my lemon ice over, because the syrup they used would drain to the bottom of the cup so when you flipped it over you could get a raw jolt pure sugar sweet frozen love!
There was this one episode that scared the living shit out of me. Actually it was one scene to be honest. It was about Sasquatch and Yetis and there was the scene where this woman was sitting on her couch watching TV when all of a sudden these two giagantic hands crash through the window and yank her through it. Between that and Shatner's terrifying battle with that Gremlin on the Twilight Zone it was a good decade or two before I could sleep comfortably by a window again.
Looking back on it all and I can still remember how badly I wanted to be one of the 'researchers' mentioned at the end credits. Traveling around the world looking for "Lost civilizations. Extra terrestials. Myths and Monsters. Missing persons. Magick and witchcraft. Unexplained phenomena." I was basically a seven year old Fox Mulder then, keeping one eye on the night sky for UFO's and the other nervously on the window in case of Sasquatch.
Luckily, all things considered, I grew up to be fairly normal.
