Meanwhile back at the office...

Here we see a management training session on building employee morale.
8ish
I don't mind the cold. When it's freezing out and i'm this tired I feel a wonderful sense of quiet endurance, or like i'm a Jack London character wading through the frozen wilderness. I walked under the predawn stars two hours ago remembering the way my Dad would point out the Orion belt to me and how cool I thought he was for knowing the constellations. I get in and everybodys too tired to be loud. I like it this way. I make coffee and sink into the numbers and injuries silently.
10ish
The guy next to me on the toliet stall was crying and speaking in French. I'm guessing it's one of the Haitian cat's that they got working down a few turns in cube land. I can't make out much since I ain't parlez vouing sweet fuck all. I try to concentrate on anything else but he's yelling louder and louder. I think he's on the cell phone with someone, and I can hear these great big sobs and shit. Finally I hear something I can recognize- "Bitch!". I hear the toliet flush and the door slam loud. I go back to reading my book.
11ish
Some genius in building maintenace is testing the fire alarm. Flashing lights, blaring horns, me and my coffee nerves causing me to leap frog up in the air at each burst. Three or four times in the last hour. The first time was funny, one of the new people got up and bolted for dear god- and we haven't seen her come back yet. WTF?
High Noon
We're half way through the darkest forest now. Earthquake belly, Tom Waits crooning on the cheap headphones, bills stacking up, coffee stain rings on the desk, Christmas lights lining the gray walls of my cube. Time for lunch.
