Just a thought really
Feb. 9th, 2007 01:28 pmSo when I got into work and fired up my Yahoo page, this was the leading news story:
Why we cared about Anna: She persevered when others would have given up.
Meanwhile there are currently over 3,080 American serviceman dead in the current Iraq conflict. 22,834 wounded in action, of which 10,142 were unable to return to duty within 72 hours. 6,640 non-hostile injuries and 18,183 diseases (both requiring medical air transport). As of January 28, 2007.
I honestly don't mean any disrespect to Anna Nicole Smith or to her loved ones. It's just that I think those men and woman listed above also 'Perservered when others would have given up'.
This is one of those things about my culture I just absolutely hate. We're stuck in a escalating conflict over seas, we've blown over 300 $ billion dollars, we're suffering casualties on an almost daily basis and the most pressing concern I can find in the media is the death of a woman whos claim to fame seems to be that she married rich and got a reality TV show out of it.
Look pro or anti war, right or left wing, can't we as a nation at least agree that the current Gulf war is a subject at least worth the attention of the passing of a minor celebrity.
I would like to invite you check out another news story that got released today. Not as glamorous I admit, not as scandalous and it involves nobody 'famous'. It's simply about one of the reasons why we've made the terrible sacrifices we've had to make in the current conflict.
A "very damning" report by the Defense Department's inspector general depicts a Pentagon that purposely manipulated intelligence in an effort to link Saddam Hussein to al-Qaida in the runup to the U.S. invasion of Iraq, says the chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee.
"That was the argument that was used to make the sale to the American people about the need to go to war," said Sen. Carl Levin, D-Mich. He said the Pentagon's work, "which was wrong, which was distorted, which was inappropriate ... is something which is highly disturbing."
Maybe this is just 'leftist journalism distorting the facts'. Maybe it's the truth. Whatever it is i'd say it's at least worth thinking about.

Report: Iraq Intel Was 'Distorted'

on 2007-02-09 06:44 pm (UTC)This is how it has always been. Funny how the reasons we went to war have changed, and people just accept that the reasons are what is now being stated even thuogh they have changed 3x... sounds like the version of history in 1984 to me
