As much as i'm looking forward to Spider-Man 3, i'm really looking forward to Robert Downey in Iron-Man in 2008. I don't know why, maybe I just love the idea of an experimental suit of armor that has enough firepower to rival the armies of most nations... and it's piloted by a playboy alcoholic billionaire (I imagine people seeing this overseas will view this as a metaphor for America's foriegn policy over the last eight years). I know that this could either be pretty cool like SpiderMan 2 or X-2 or it could be bad... and I mean Hulk bad! However I found a 'first look' at the Armor online during my break.

It has elements of the classic version along with a bit of the anime-esque 'Ultimates' look. Not bad. Here's hoping they don't pull a Lucas and think that a special effects budget can substitute for a decent script. Meanwhile... what if Iron-Man the movie had been made when he first appeared in the mid-60's?

Clark Gable would have made a FANTASTIC Tony Stark. Good call.

And you're absolutely right on all other counts, as well. In spite of my continually growing dislike of him because of what's going on in the comics right now -- which is made all the worse by the fact that NONE of it is out of character for Tony -- I've been an Iron Man fan since before I could read. I'm REALLY looking forward to this flick.

I suppose I'm going to have to break down and make an Iron Man icon. I'll have to comfort myself by using a picture where he's really shitty drunk.

You should check out this site if you liked the Gable poster, The American Comic Shop (http://www.dpccomics.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/theamericancomicshop/movieposters). I really dig the Cary Grant as Bat-Man one.

I really liked the old Bob Layton/David Michelline(I know I spelt that wrong) era when I was a kid. Fun stuff. Maybe you can find something from the 'Demon in a bottle' story line for your icon. Where Tony's shitfaced and talking to his helmet like it was a scene out of Hamlet.

Where Tony's shitfaced and talking to his helmet like it was a scene out of Hamlet.

That was exactly what I was thinking of.

I'm pretty sure my brother's got the Demon in a Bottle trade. If he doesn't, I'll probably pick it up while we're out nerding it up tomorrow. I can scan in a picture from that if I can't find one online.

I'm looking forward to this one too -- perfect casting IMO.

Ah, yes, the days before he did indeed become the Dick Cheney of the Marvel Universe (good analogy). Love the Gable poster. He has that perfect sort of sexy, slightly hung over look that still says "I can kick your ass."

No matter how bad it is we can at least rest assured that it will be better than that live-action Spawn movie from 1997. I'm still hoping that someone will finally make that Dr. Strange movie they've been promising since the late 90s.
