I found a great online archive of old Russian photographs here. A few of them really struck me as beautiful. Whether it's coquettish nudes, contemplative cavalrymen or the stoic airman, there's something about them that evokes fragments of stories out of these shots.

A couple of my favorites.

I have always wondered if there was deeper symbolism having nude ladies lay about on dead animals, aside from just being "sexy."

Perhaps it's symbolic of how the nude invokes passions that are both primal and end in the inevitable 'le petite la mort'?

Or maybe the image goes back to the Maiden who tames the unicorn or even in the tarot where the Strenght card is a woman who has mastered the beast.

Oh, those Russians...

The third one of the cavalrymen is actually rather famous, and is supposed to be of some members of the Revolutionary Insurrectionary Army, that is the anarchist army led by Nestor Makhno in the Civil War.

Now how cool would it be to say your Grandad was in the "Anarchist Cavalry"?

Thanks man:)
