on 2007-10-04 03:31 pm (UTC)And he seems so diabolically pleased with himself, despite the small, cute nature of his new form. This is a rare quality I find in certain rare, B-Horror movies involving inept mad scientists and sorcerers -- and it totally enthralls me. These lonely, peerless but brilliant men seek to change their lives for the better through their dark works, manage to just turn themselves into ineffective freaks, but are so swollen with pride, they don't see how bad they've really fucked up. "The Blood Waters of Dr. Z" is a fine example of this. :)
I don't know that I've ever seen someone create this on purpose, though -- as with so many of the things that make cheesy movies great, it takes a careful balance of inspiration and ineptness to pull off.
I guess its the B-movie equivalence of Clark Ashton Smith's dark fantasy tales where dark sorcerers are constantly getting in way over their heads.
