"Oh sad Bodhidharma you were right
Everything we loved disappeared
Nobody in the chairs
Nobody in the books
Nobody in the rain"
~Long Island Chinese Poem Rain,
Jack Kerouac

"You and me and rainbows"

"All along the watch-tower"

Brush stroked clouds

No one in the rain

Dusk to dust

A sky of blood and gold

A long ride home

Yesterday evening, after the rain, Vee and I went chasing rainbows and stormclouds. We parked on a bridge off of Edgewood that overlooks the rail lines on Dekalb. The dusk skies were drenched in a deep crimson west and lit with sporadic flashes of heat lightning... imagine the aerial battlefield of Milton's Paradise Lost if they were painted by J M W Turner, where the banks of clouds seem to be soaked with the blood of fallen angels and the boom of thundering celestial weapons spark across the dark horizon. A lot of the shots seem to be imbued with a certain graininess, I'm not sure if that's due to the ionization of the air or what... I'm not an expert, but it did render a lot of the photographs with a certain texture that ruined some shots (to be honest) but oddly redeemed others.

The entire set is collected over at my Flick Account. Enjoy.

Some of those look quite surreal. Nice!

Yeah, like I said, there was some quality to the air (especially when I was trying to shoot the lightning across the tracks) that made the shots grainy and heavily saturated with an almost thermal red... hence the element of the 'surreal'. Glad you like them:)

Thanks, the reds came out a bit deeper in some shots, especially when I didn't try one of the specialty settings. They do give a sort of creepy apocalyptic vibe to the sky.

Glad I didn't run off and oversize-print that shot I picked last week to frame ... you've made my choice more difficult. These are stunning!

Thanks, I only wish I was able to capture the streaks of lightning that lit up the sky... but after exhausting my battery in the attempt I had to give up. Glad you like them:)
