jack_babalonBeen at the third draft since 10 this morning. Only another 18 pages down though. I'm telling you I got spoiled with the blog writting. I'm too used to jotting down an idea or a story or a scene here in LJ-LJ Land and moving on to the next thing without looking back. At best I might've corrected something someone might've left a comment on... ('safe' instead of 'safety' word, Edith Piaf instead of Pilaf, 'your' for 'you're' that sort of thing). Usually the extent of my editing involved me taking down a post when it threatened to reveal the beast behind the curtain on taking a second look. Anyway the novel fights me each sentence of the way... it demands better of her author, it demands quality and a thorough re-read each word of the way. The Apollonian Editor in me smiles smug red-lining the Dionysian Authors flights of fancy and run-on sentences. Creatively I'm in the middle of a lovers spat between two sides of myself... if that makes any sense to you?
Anyway taking a quick break then I take a stab at writing a short story for this internet magazine a friend recommended. The deadlines in five days and all I have is a rough sketch in my head and some random notes I jotted last night.
Meanwhile I've managed to pick up enough freelance work to cover my rent through March and my bills this month. The film thingy is on hold for the next two weeks while Bruk hustles out some other projects and hits Callie for some award show or something. Figured I'll use the break to hammer out the novel and see what else I can do. No luck finding a steady job yet. Haven't seen the woman in almost a week now. I keep dreaming that I'm back DJing for the Secret Room (dot net) over at Masquerade... the dream (from what I remember) involves me being locked out of the DJ booth with no one else inside to let me in - I know the song that I left playing is almost through and when it stops there will be this horrible silence.
Anyway enough - a quick lunch and then back to the story's where I belong.
