______,
Thank you for your recent query email and your interest in PMA. We are always eager to hear from writers who are serious about the business of writing; unfortunately, we do not feel that PMA is the right company to represent your work. We have to be very selective of what we choose to represent, and all of our decisions are based on a frank assessment of the current needs of the literary and film markets. The fact that this work doesn’t fit our narrow criteria for representation does not mean it couldn’t find a home elsewhere. We urge you to submit your work to other agencies or management companies that may be more suited to this type of material.
Best,
Adrienne Rosado
Manager

PMA LITERARY & FILM MGT., INC.

Dear ____,
Please disregard my last message--I received your submission separate from your query letter. I'm afraid it's not what we're looking for, but best of luck in placing HIGH MIDNIGHT elsewhere.
Kind Regards,
Lisa Logan

Not too bad. That's two "No's" out of twenty for today.

Well time to get ready to make Vee some dinner, run a few chores and maybe catch last nights LOST online sometime later.

Perhaps you'll see me there. Friends have suggested I get out of the house this weekend. Don't know though, I'm a little down right now... well, occupied I guess, would be a better word.

Look at it this way, that's two more rejection slips you are to the average number of rejection slips before you sell your novel. You're that much closer to success.

To be honest, I guess right now I'm just hating this sense of dependence I suddenly have on needing someone else's (a stranger I've never met at that) approval. Most of my life writing has been my sanctuary, that one place in my life where no one could tell me what to do or what to say or how to say it.

And now...? Well here I am with my hat in my hand, going door to door begging someone to approve of my efforts and it just stings something fierce against my pride.

Sorry, I really didn't intend to rant here.

I hear what you're saying and I do appreciate it.

For what it's worth, despite the bruised ego and nervous frustration, this whole process of trying to become a novelist has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. Since I started this project some year and a 1/3rd ago, I have literally felt like a new man.

I guess I just wanted to say that there have been some "Ups" along with the "Downs".

It does suck, but still what are you going to do?

I've been contemplating going down to Little Five and asking for spare change. The urchins down there seem to be having better luck than a lot of the people I know looking for work.

I believe you are looking at this in a metaphorically incorrect way. There is no hat.
it's 1981. You are standing on the corner in the ghetto, attempting to sell the very first batch of crack rocks in the city, but so far the people passing you by have been cops, winos, church ministers, Korean liquor store owners, and grade school kids.
You have some shit that'll get a muthafuckah super high, and keep him coming back for more hits on the devil's dick.
It's just a matter of time before you hook somebody up, and make enough bank for the Caddilac with an Alpine sound system, and the diamond encrusted JB23 gold pendant

Well if I do manage to get published, I am certainly going to have to spend that first royalty check on some Pagan Bling!

Thanks man, this cheered me up quite a bit.
