The Zen of Billy Jack

Did you know that the Saturday before Easter has been designated 'Billy Jack Day' by an act of congress back in the summer of '77? Of course you didn't, I just made that up. But still it's a pleasant thought imagining that one day a year the citizens of our great nation would be encouraged to 'whop' the side of their foot across the faces of sneering rednecks and corrupt cops. Why it's enough to bring a sentimental tear to the eyes of this old libertine.

Here's a few words of wisdom from the hippy Rambo himself...

"I'll tell you what I'm gonna do then, just for the hell of it. I'm gonna take this right foot and I'm gonna whop you on that side of your face, and you wanna know something? There's not a damn thing you're gonna be able to do about it."

"When policemen break the law, then there isn't any law. Just a fight for survival."

"I want you to know... that I try. When Jean and the kids at the school tell me that I'm supposed to control my violent temper, and be passive and nonviolent like they are, I try. I really try. Though when I see this girl... of such a beautiful spirit... so degraded... and this boy... that I love... sprawled out by this big ape here... and this little girl, who is so special to us we call her 'God's little gift of sunshine'... and I think of the number of years that she's going to have to carry in her memory the savagery of this idiotic moment of yours... I just go BERSERK!"

"You take the gun and you put a bullet in it and you have that feeling of power that you plant in the back of your brain, and you mix it with your energy so that when you come out here, you come out a dynamo of robbery, a man who gets respect as well as money. I'm going to be robbing you in just a second so hold on."

You know...I love Billy Jack I had to pick up the special collected editions since I had never seen The Trial of Billy Jack and Billy Jack goes to Congress. I keep hearing that Tom Laughlin is trying to get a new movie out as part of the series also seriously looking for Master Gunfighter on DVD.

I'm not proud of my little obessions but they are mine and they make me..me.
