Ninja Of Love
Apr. 15th, 2005 02:22 pmDanger Diabolik!
Mario Bava, 1968
~Mario Bava (Planet of the vampires,Kill baby... kill) translates Italy's premier comic book character, a swingin' sexy superthief, known simply as Diabolik, and takes him out of the four color panels and into the G0-G0 late 60's of Mod Europe. One part James Bond, one part Fantomas, our anti-hero proceeds to rob, murder, seduce, drug & fight his way through the combined forces of Europes police, military & criminal underworld. Why? Well from what i've seen I think it's mainly just for shits and giggles, that, or maybe just to steal his lover/partner, Eva, a multi million dollar necklace for her birthday. So what happens? Bridges blow up! Men fall out of the trapdoor of mafia owned private jets! Cops machine gunned down indescrimantly! Chase scenes galore between Jag's & copters. One of my favorite scenes occurs at the point when the government decides to put out a million dollar bounty on our boy Diabolik's head. Diabolik finds this to be an immense waste of the governments money, so he retaliates by threatening to wipe out all the Governments money. Thinking Diabolik is bluffing the Minister of Finace calls him out. Next scene is a montage of government buildings blowing up & collapsing. Diabolik has just destroyed all the money in the National reserves and wiped out all the tax information on each & every citizen (a pleasant thought perhaps this 15th of April). Later it's back to his secret underground lair (think what the Batcave would look like if Shag designed it) for hot monkey sex on a revolving bed covered in money. Bava at his finest. If you liked 10th Victim or hell even Austin Powers, or maybe you just loved the Beastie Boy video for "Body Moving", then hop on your moped and Go! GO! GO! Rent Danger:Diabolik!
Ciao Baby!

on 2005-04-15 07:45 pm (UTC)I have seen PotV, but I was badly under the influence and more focused on the young lady who absolutely INSISTED we watch it. So I have vague images of heavily mascaraed Italian beauties & shiny space suits floating around in the back of my skull ( of course that could be a memory of one of my drunken shore leave escapades).
I'm very stoked that Diabolik comes out on DVD in June-YAY!
