Well since my 'process' (or whatever it is) varies, depending primarily on just what it is I'm actually writing, I figured I'd try this meme on three different examples from my work.

My novel ("High Midnight") -

I write like
Margaret Atwood

I Write Like by Mémoires, Mac journal software. Analyze your writing!

Blog Fiction ("For She of the Eleventh Letter") -

I write like
H. P. Lovecraft

I Write Like by Mémoires, Mac journal software. Analyze your writing!

Journal/Day-in-the-Life Personal Crap

I write like
Chuck Palahniuk

I Write Like by Mémoires, Mac journal software. Analyze your writing!

The odd thing is I've never read Margaret Atwood. As for the Lovecraft reference let's hope they meant his 'imagination' rather than his style. Palahniuk... mmm-I-dunno, I've got a lotta homework to do before I would feel comfortable making comparisons.

Well, for what it's worth I used the same format for this posting before I saw yours. =)

I was almost tempted to copy and paste a renowned author to see if it came up as them.

Mario Puzo wouldn't be so bad.

all I know is I dig the blog posts, the one recently where the kid was talking to you was fantastic.

you are an artist, and one of my favorites.

Ah, well that would be the 'Palahniuk' one. Glad you dug it. Though it made me a little self-conscious afterwards (as tends to be the case with non-fiction narratives).

Thank you sir, hopefully I'll continue to earn such high praise:)

I <3 all three answers, but M Atwood is especially cool because she isn't one who pops into my mind very often. Although she should because Handmaid's Tale was one of my favorite books when I was younger.

Well, I'm definitely gonna have to check her out here soon.

Ok, so I played with this widget with a few pieces. I got Kurt Vonnegut a couple of times.
For both of my non-fiction pieces I got David Foster Wallace (which I did find flattering). But, for a couple of my more "adult" pieces (including a section that is a rather violent almost rape scene) I got...

I write like
James Joyce

I think he is rolling over in his grave....

I don't know, Kitten. Joyce had a vibrant and dynamic sense of the erotic, which he weaves within some ferociously clever word play (Molly Bloom's 'Yes Soliquoy' for example) - creating an effect that's like skinny dipping in the stream of conciousness. The widget probably picked up on similar elements in your story.

Personally some of your steamier pieces often remind me of Henry Miller as filtered by a young Lydia Lunch. But mainly they just remind me of you:)

Never read David Foster Waller. Sounds like I should.
