For [livejournal.com profile] esmio06 who laments the rise of Macho Man Soviet Union.

I don't know if any other sketch of Robot Chicken's second season made me laugh as hard as this sketch. Rowdy Roddy Piper's "Hey, hey, hey ya fuckin' Nazi... how ya doin'" right before taking out the sentry with a pile driver just makes me warm and smiley all over.

In fact, just once i'd like to have some pig or suit mouthing off to me and be able to whistle and have R.R.Piper show up in a blaze of kilt wearin' whoop-ass!

Anyway, now back to your regularly scheduled blogs...

Finally caught Tarantino's Death Proof last night. Loved it! From what I heard it was the weaker of the two Grindhouse films... maybe so (they're not releasing Planet Terror until the end of the month so I haven't caught it yet), but for now... I was pleasantly surprised to find a great little ode to the Trash-Sinema of the late 60's/early 70's... only with the benefit of a much, much better script. It has all the visceral vamp of vintage Russ Myers, with plenty of wink-wink sensuality and just the right amount of old school splatter flick body politicks thrown in for good measure.

So is it Pulp Fiction? No, not at all, it's not even Kill Bill really... rather it's the smug wink of an aging hipster who, despite himself, still has some smooth moves and mac daddy grooves to drop on the party dance floor. Best to just step to the side son and let the old man do his thing.

Speaking of moves, it wouldn't be a Q.T. film if it didn't boast one helluva kick ass soundtrack. Replete with plenty of surf guitar goodness (why haven't I ever heard of Jack Nietzche before?), Go-Go-Bubblegum pop and daydream vague psychedellia. As a writer i'd like to be my own man... but as a DJ I want to be Quentin Tarantino.

This is Chick Habit by April March (it's the last song of the film) but the video I found has them splicing it with one of my favorite films of all time... Faster Pussycat - Kill!Kill!Kill!.

Dig this, Daddy-O!

And speaking of Russ ("the rural Felini") Myers... a quick trawl of the Youtubes (described once as a series of internets by a senator I believe)I found a great little trailer to the cult classic Beyond the Valley of the Ultra-Vixens. Let's put this one behind a cut, shall we?

So, whatcha think....?

Anyway i'll close this with one of my favorite posters from the above quoted Trash: The Graphic Genius of Xploitation Movie Posters
